A little about me

Thank you for visiting You Matter Counselling.

My name is Becci, and I am a qualified person-centred/humanistic therapist.

I approach my work with the utmost passion for assisting individuals on their mental health journeys. This dedication stems significantly from my own experiences. Having faced anxiety and depression from a young age, I encountered numerous challenges in adulthood as my life did not unfold as planned. At times, it felt as if everyone around me was thriving while I struggled, leading to feelings of failure. These experiences deepened my understanding of the essential role that support and compassion play in the healing process. Through my own journey, I recognised the transformative power of counselling, which inspired me to pursue a career in this field.

So why am I sharing this

I share my story not merely for context but to emphasise that my personal struggles and experiences have shaped the person I am today. While I possess extensive training in counselling, it is my lived experience that I consider most valuable. I have come to accept myself more fully, embracing the notion that I need not be ‘fixed’. This acceptance has alleviated much of my former fear of life. I understand the myriad of emotions that may arise when seeking help, and I recognise that healing is a unique journey for everyone, often requiring time and patience. I am, and will always remain, a work in progress. This perspective is part of the beauty of life’s journey.

It would be a privilege to connect with you and explore how we can work together on your path to wellness. As the saying goes, "It is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but about learning to dance in the rain." I have extensive experience working with various mental health charities in York, and I continue to volunteer for an organisation that provided significant support during my own challenging times. I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), adhering to their Professional Standards and Ethical Framework. Additionally, I am DBS checked and trained in safeguarding and suicide prevention. Your well-being is my priority, and I am here to support you.
